Code of Practice for the Pastoral care of International students
Sheffield College of Studies has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice for the Pastoral care of International Students published by the Ministry of Education. Copies of the Code are available on request from this institution or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education website at http://minedu.govt.nz.
Airport WelcomeWith an airport welcome, you will be met upon arrival at the Auckland International Airport by a Sheffield representative, who will arrange transportation to take you to the Sheffield campus. Airport welcomes are available from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm New Zealand time on the two days before the start day of each program. To arrange to an Airport Welcome, please check the appropriate box when you fill out the Accommodation Placement Form.
Immigration (Visa)Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on right for employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at http://immigration.govt.nz
Health and Travel InsuranceMost students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand unless they are the holder of a temporary permit which is valid for two years or more. If you do not belong to this special category and you receive medical treatment during your visit, you will be liable for the full costs of treatment. International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand.

However, Sheffield will not be liable for any loss, damage or injury incurred whilst on the school premises, with a homestay family or on a school tour or excursion. In commencing a course of study at Sheffield College of Studies, you will be deemed to have accepted all of our Conditions of Enrolment. International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while studying in New Zealand. We are happy to provide information of policies on request.
Accident Insurance The accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents, and temporary visitors to New Zealand, but you may still be liable for all other medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the ACC website at www.acc.co.nz
HolidaysAll the courses in the Sheffield College of Studies programmes do not generally include holidays. However, if you study for 12 weeks or less, you may take up to 2 weeks holidays, as long as you give our office at least one week’s notice of your intention to take a holiday. Holidays must be taken as whole-week blocks. We will extend your course to make allowance for the holidays taken on specified dates i.e. public holidays or term breaks. If you take a holiday for personal reasons during the course, there will be no further extension of the course.
